Mutton-fat Jade White Porcelain Tea Set (羊脂玉白瓷茶具)

上善若水

«上善若水

“The highest virtue is like water.”»

This phrase from the Tao Te Ching (道德经) reminds us that water nourishes all things without striving, adapts without losing its nature, and quietly shapes even the hardest stone through patience.

Fittingly, this mutton-fat jade white porcelain tea set (羊脂玉白瓷茶具) is dedicated to that philosophy.

Why White Porcelain?

Unlike clay teaware, white porcelain is non-porous and chemically neutral. It imparts virtually no flavour of its own, allowing each tea to reveal its true character.

Whether it is Wuyi rock tea, aged white tea, raw Pu’er, or black tea, the porcelain remains silent.

It does not interpret.

It does not influence.

It simply allows the tea to speak for itself.

My Benchmark Tasting Set

As I continue my journey through Chinese tea, this will remain my benchmark tasting set.

Every new tea will first be brewed in this porcelain before being explored with other teaware.

It serves as a reminder that the finest appreciation begins not by changing the tea, but by listening to what it already has to say.

«上善若水。让茶,自己说话。

“The highest virtue is like water.

Let the tea speak for itself.”»
